Potential Threats in ICT
Viruses are bugs that can modify the files that form part of a
computer operating system, making the computer slower and may also damage it.
People who expose themselves to inappropriate content on the internet are more
vulnerable to these viruses. They target the website viewer as the viewer
wouldn’t go to the police with regards as to which website they found the virus
on.
Malware is things like ‘third party web search toolbars’.
These trick the user into thinking that they are helpful. They
are not! These collect all your searches you have made using the tool bar and the information such as bank details, your name and address are sent to the owners of the tool bar creator and can be sold to companies that will spam you and may also target you.
Phishing is a type of technology that steals your usernames and passwords.
Things like forms you are asked to fill out to enter a competition (often as fake as it sounds) then your email and passwords, email addresses and house numbers are sent back to the ‘company’. They then will use this information in the worst way possible. As I mentioned about malware, these tools can also be used to spam you.
